savannah tall cake.

after convincing a coworker to have a few friends over for dinner this weekend, the least i could do was bring a delicious dessert. i wanted to do something that was fresh and light as we were having an authentic indonesian meal that would be several courses and very filling, but after a fair search i gave up on trying to choose a traditional indonesian dessert, and decided this recipe by paula deen for what she calls a 'savannah tall cake' would be a perfect alternative. considering they're not even close to in season, we managed to snag some really fresh strawberries that were fully ripe and super sweet, and with the addition of cream cheese vanilla whipped cream and a super moist sponge, everything came together to create a dessert that was super tasty as well as really pretty, which is just as important if you ask me.

note: because this is a paula deen recipe, it's the farthest thing from health conscious. that being said, i decided to forgo the third layer that makes this a cake large enough to serve 8 people, and went with just 2 -- there were 6 of us and we had enough cake for 8 anyways.
paula you're an animal!

  1. Besides my 2-day old little boy, this is the prettiest thing I've seen in a LONG time. Amanda, that's shockingly good.
